I still can’t believe I get to live here

image

I woke up this morning to this view. This is my back yard. I live in the mountains.

Standing in my back yard on the grass I face the East and turn my face towards the morning sun. The sunlight is bright and blinds my barely open eyes. But the warmth feels too good to turn away.

I can hear the quail all over the neighborhood calling each other. “Barking” as I like to say. I can imagine them saying things like “Hey! Where are you?” “Hey! I’m over here!” “OK, good. Where are you?” “It’s okay, I”m over here.” “Oh, okay, whew. Hey! Where are you now?” The California Valley Quail that are in my yard all day every day are beautiful and funny birds and an endless source of joy and entertainment for me.

I flew my little drone in my back yard. It’s a shaky flight with a poor camera. Might make you a little dizzy. Watch at your own risk. Yes, I know, I’m not a very good pilot (yet).

We here in Reno are laughing at you stupid Californians. We have plenty of water. In surplus years Reno puts water BACK into the ground wells. Imagine that. We live in the desert and we have plenty of water. California is going to burn. So glad I don’t live there any more.

Is there any better way to make coffee than a French Press? Seems to me this is the tastiest way. All the delicious oils get caught in the paper filters in coffeemakers, but not so in a French Press. I just drank six cups of French Press coffee and now I want more.

Enough rambling. I’m going to make some more coffee, sit in my back yard, and smoke a cigar.

I can’t believe

Every morning when I’m driving to work at 6am I’m watching the sun come up over the local mountains, I’m looking at the snow on Mt Rose, I’m looking across the wide open spaces of the Nevada high desert, I’m feeling the cold clean clear mountain air on my face, I’m looking at all the natural beauty of the surrounding areas, I’m looking at all the evergreen trees that I love so much, I’m driving a very short commute of 10 miles, I’m actually looking forward to going to a job that I love, and I’m thinking about how lucky I am to be living here right now and experiencing all this.

I can’t help but smile and think to myself, “I can’t believe I’m here. I can’t believe I get to do this. I can’t believe I live in Reno and work in Reno. I can’t believe my good fortune. I just can’t believe it.”

Someone once said, “Happiness is when your reality exceeds your expectations.”

Well, I never thought I would be so lucky.
