So I’m driving home from work tonight and I’m listening to some late night talk show host. He’s recalling a trip to Texas where he had a great time sampling the night life and BBQ’s. He mentions the name of a band that I’ve never heard before. He’s raving about them. I must hear this band.
But I’m driving home. What to do?
I grab my Palm Pre mobile phone and fire up the Pandora app. I punch in the name of the band (Band of Heathens). Within seconds I’m streaming music into my car stereo speakers. He’s right, these guys are good.
I drive the rest of the way home listening to my new music. I am happy. I love technology. I love Sprint. I love my Palm Pre. I love Pandora!
So the Palm Pre is better than the new iphone?
That’s a tough call. The Pre does some things sooo much better than the iPhone–multitasking and synergy for starters. That said, the iPhone has a thousands of applications to the Pre’s 30-something.
To me it came down the choice of carrier. AT&T has horrible coverage in the places I live, work, and play–places like Manteca, Livermore, Truckee and Yosemite. Sprint has great coverage everywhere I go. I went with the Pre because I want a phone that I can actually use *all* the time.
If the iPhone were available on Sprint or Verizon, I would have gotten it.
I’d still go for the Palm Pre over the iphone. The calendar and appointment system alone is worth it. Iphone has nothing on that. And P.Pre automatically backs everything up on its server, so that when your phone physically goes bonkers, you don’t lose a thing. You simply download everything and it’s as if you’ve had the same phone always. Even the same preferences remain. Iphone ? – just update your software and you lose all your settings – inlcuding a hard-earned $2million of poker (play) money! @#$!#%%^!!
Palm Pre’s message threading is extremely efficient. So if you have facebook or any other messaging system, you will love the Pre. You can be involved in all of them at any given time, without having to close each application window to get to the other. Iphone has nothing on that, either.
Also:
The ‘whisk-away’ to close applications, is very innovative and very convenient.
The quality of pictures the little cam takes is sweet.
The magnetic charging system is technology advancement dude.
