Tonight was the most fun I’ve had in a very long time.
Dave came over first with the requisite beers and Copenhagen. Kevin came over next, followed by Kym and finally Ange. Nobody showed up empty handed. We had two ice chests full of beer to help us through yet another episode of the Drinkin’ With Dave podcast.
We sat around and talked story like we usually do, accompanied by the usual mix of music and beer. When the time was right, we turned on the mics and Dave began.
What followed was a rousing game of Name That Tune. I DJ’ed while the other four competed. After three rounds it was a very close game. Dave and Kym both had 12 points, Kev had 11, and poor Ange only had 3. For the tie-breaker I threw some obscure song at ’em, but Dave knew the song immediately and became our first champion. Look for this podcast on The Drinkin’ With Dave Show website sometime next week.
And then I got a phone call from my dad, who was upstairs. This always makes me chuckle. I mean, he’s right upstairs, why not come down here when you want to talk to me? I guess it’s just easier for him to call me on the cell, right?
“I BBQ’ed some chicken. Are you guys hungry?”
“Uh, yeah! Oh yeah!”
My dad rocks. Thanks dad!
After some dinner the mics came out again. This time it was for Karaoke. Again, I DJ’ed while Dave entertained us with his signature crooning. Kym was in stitches. Dave’s delivery is superb. Everything from Classic Country to Vocal Jazz to Grunge and Hard Rock, Dave knows it all and takes requests.
The next thing I knew it was almost 2am. Sheesh, where has the time gone? Ange had drank (drunk?) an entire bottle of Cappy (with Coke) and was in no condition to drive. So I drove his truck home and Kym followed.
Finally back at home I did some cleaning up and now I’m writing this post.
Guys, thank you so much for coming over. I truly have some great friends. I’ve really needed you all, these past few months since my mother’s passing. You’re always there for me. You help the pain go away.
I don’t know what I’d do without my friends (yes, that means you, too, Kym!)
Thanks =)
Thanks right back at ya – I needed Friday night too. I probably would have gone nuts sitting at home. š
