What a week!
Dave dropped off his wife at the airport at 7am Wednesday morning, and 30 minutes later he was knocking on my door, case of beer in hand. It was just a tad bit too early for me, so I watched Dave pound beers, savoring the first of his 5 days of freedom.
Later that afternoon we grabbed the rest of the beer, and I packed a bag, and we drove out to his house, where I would spend the rest of the week and weekend. It was great! We BBQ’ed every night and went to lunch every afternoon. The beer flowed like wine. Many, many hours were clocked playing Tiger Woods on the PS2.
Saturday was Dave’s big golf tournament, the Menehune Classic. This year was the 3rd consecutive, and it keeps getting bigger and better. The first year we were very unorganized, last year we did a little better, and this year we really nailed it! We got everything done ahead of time, and everything went very smoothly.
Dave and I teed off first in front of a group of 28 golfers. I haven’t felt that kind of pressure in a long time. As I stood up there, addressing the ball, I thought to myself, “Tom, just make contact. Don’t try to hit it too hard. Oh sweet baby jeebus please don’t duff it in front of all these people.”
Duff. I toed the ball and it went 15 feet.
And that set the pace for the rest of my round. I played absolutely terrible. I’m sure it had nothing to do with 4 days of drinking, being a little hung over, and all that. Dave’s game was no better. By the 3rd hole we pretty much just gave up and pounded beers. I think we came in dead last.

Tom. Sounds like you played like most of us do, especially under pressure. Be thankful for the fun you had… well, and of course most importantly the drinking. 😉
