Great music

Lately I’ve been thinking about all the great music I’ve been exposed to just in the last year or so. My intellectual friends have fantastic musical tastes (except for Phil), and I have them to thank for introducing me to some stuff I probably wouldn’t have found on my own.

Thanks Bran for Beck – Sea Change.

Thanks Owen for introducing me to Clutch.

And Corey, holy crap where do I begin? This guy has uploaded so much music to my server… ahhh… errr… I mean… Corey has bought me, yeah, that’s it… so much music that I don’t know where to start. How about just a few?

Zero 7 The ultimate chill music.
Massive Attack – Mezzanine One of the best albums I’ve heard all year.
Groove Armada Funky chill.
Thievery Corporation Almost as chill as Zero 7, a little more upbeat (but not much).

Now that I think about it, Phil’s Best of the Police compilation was awesome. I listen to that at least once a week. Too bad the rest of his stuff is garbage =)

***UPDATE!!!***
Phil’s comments have reminded me of music that he did indeed introduce me to. They haven’t gotten much play time lately, and so they slipped my mind. However the following is great stuff, although I still disagree with Phil’s genre labels!
30 Seconds to Mars Addicting from the very first power chord. But really, what the hell is Post-Grunge?
Chevelle Slow but chunky with sultry vocals, except when he is “forcefully singing”.

If I’ve forgotten anyone, please forgive me. I’ve listed the stuff that has made the biggest impact on my life. I’ve got way too much music to listen to now. I don’t even think I’ve listened to 1/10th of the stuff on my media server.

  1. Hey! You like 30 Seconds to Mars (because 30STM is STM) and Chevelle too! … but thanks for the props anyway. You know that made my day you silly skilly.

Too bad you don’t like good music, like Radiohead, the Rapture, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Mars Volta, The Flaming Lips, Blur, Supergrass, etc. etc. etc. You know, the Post-Grunge IDM Britpop Neo-Prog Mathrock Dancepunk stuff.

*sigh* Guess I’m just a little too INDIE for you. I think I’ll go make up some more musical genres and be sad with rain.

  2. AND ANOTHER THING!

Corey may have been the one who uploaded Zero7, Massive Attack, and Groove Armada, but guess who introduced those three bands to him! Eh? Take one guess!

*fade sobs and walks away, aching for recognition*

  3. Well who-ever is responsible for the electronica -Fade or Corey… yall are right down my alley. Thievery Corp. comes outta 18th street lounge in DC. That place is sooooo chill. Actually between Baltimore and DC we get a great selection. Reminds me of X and redbull in my younger days.

I think Kruder & Dorfmeister was my first real good eletronica buy. On the other end of the spectrum and at the same time Amon Tobin was in there too.

  4. Reminds me – can we do some CD swappin? Are we a trading group? Like for XP Pro – Dreamweaver professional, music, games? Can we set that up?

  5. Shit, dom just reminded me… I need to rip the K&D Sessions and share it with the group.
