Anticipation

Well the first week of school is over.

I’m getting close to $600 for books and supplies this semester. One of my ‘packets’ from Mr. Kopy cost me $130. Since it’s not a textbook I can’t sell it back. I’m pretty pissed off about that. At least I get to sell all my books from the bookstore back. Oh well, nothing I can do about it.

Wednesday night I went to see The Paladins at Duffy’s. I’ve been going to their shows for ten years now. I lost count of how many times I saw them in Long Beach. This was my 3rd time in Chico. The Paladins are an awesome three-man band. They play good ol’ rockabilly music. Thomas Yeardsley, the upright bass player, was my hero when I played bass. The band has been together for over 20 years now. They’ve never made it big but they have a loyal following. These guys live to tour and put on great shows. I really admire them. They are living their dreams.

Saturday night I drove down to Roseville to Scott’s house. We hung out and BBQ’ed and drank beer until 1am or so. I always like hanging out with my buddy Scott. His kids get to me after a few hours, so one evening is all I can take. His wife, Deeann, is a nice enough lady BUT… she’s a woman on the edge. With 3 boys to raise and a husband that works for the railroad (and is only home every other night) she’s under a lot of pressure. Scott and I usually hang out by the BBQ outside until she goes to bed. Man… I feel sorry for the guy. I don’t envy his life at all.

So it’s one week down and fourteen to go. Every morning when I wake up the first thing on my mind is graduation. On May 22nd I’ll be walking across that stage. I’m so excited! I’m so ready, too.

When I’m not thinking about school stuff I’m thinking about my next move. I’ve been putting this stuff off for 3 years. Now I can’t help but think about it. More school? Work? Both? I’m not sure.

I’m watching the Super Bowl this year. First time in as long as I can remember that I’ve watched it. I normally don’t care. It’s not unusual for me to not even know that it’s on, let alone who is playing. So why this year? The commercials. I’ve heard so much about them I didn’t want to miss it this year. Also I wanted to see Janet during the half time show.

What does that say about me that I’m excited about commercials? I don’t want to think about that any more…
